About this tool

A dictaphone that lives in the browser: press Record and this tool captures your microphone through MediaRecorder with a real state machine — record, pause, resume, stop — so you can collect your thoughts mid-take without cutting a clip. A live timer and level meter run while recording, and when you stop, the take appears instantly as a playable audio element built from an object URL, with a one-click download as .webm. It works in desktop Chrome, Edge and Firefox and in mobile Chrome and Safari 14.3+; on iOS the recording saves through Safari's normal download handling. If the microphone is blocked, the error tells you exactly what happened instead of failing silently. Recordings stay on your device. Your file never leaves this page — processing runs entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded and the data is dropped from memory when you close the tab.
