About this tool

Most counters split sentences on every period they see, so Mr. Smith or e.g. breaks the math. This one guards common abbreviations — Mr., Mrs., Dr., Prof., vs., etc., e.g., i.e. — and refuses to end a sentence when the next word starts lowercase, which is how real editors read. Paste or type and the stats update live: sentence count, word count, unique words, paragraphs, characters, average words per sentence, a preview of your longest sentence (handy for spotting the run-on you lost track of), and reading plus speaking time estimates at the standard 200 and 130 words per minute. Nothing is analyzed anywhere but your own browser, so drafts of any sensitivity are safe.
