About this tool

This tool pulls the actual text out of your PDF (using pdf.js text-layer extraction) and builds an editable Word document — paragraph breaks and page order preserved — which Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice all open. Honest scope (read this): this is a text-level conversion. Multi-column layouts become sequential text, tables become lines, images are not embedded, and scanned/image-only PDFs have no text layer at all (they need OCR, which runs server-side at other sites — exactly the upload-privacy trade-off we avoid). If your goal is editing text from a normal text PDF — reports, letters, papers — this gets you there in seconds, privately. For pixel-identical Word recreations, no honest free client-side method exists.

Does the Word file look exactly like the PDF?

No — and we won't pretend otherwise. You get the full text in reading order, cleanly formatted; complex layouts (columns/tables/graphics) simplify. That's the honest limit of private, client-side conversion.

My PDF is a scan and nothing was extracted — why?

Scans are photos of pages: no text layer exists. These need OCR which requires heavy server models; this tool intentionally does not upload your files.

Is the output a real .docx?

It's a .doc file (HTML-based, opens perfectly in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice). For .docx, open the .doc in Word and Save-As .docx.

Where do the images go?

Text extraction intentionally skips images. Use PDF to JPG to export pages as images and insert what you need.

Is anything uploaded?

Why does my two-column PDF come out jumbled?

Columns extract left-to-right, top-to-bottom. Re-arranging is a one-time manual step — the alternative (server layout analysis) means uploading your document.
